About This Tool
Format and validate JSON data so developers can inspect structure, indentation and syntax errors more easily. The tool is useful for API responses, configuration files, debugging and development workflows.
How to Use It
Paste a JSON document into the input area and run the formatter. Valid JSON is displayed with readable indentation; invalid input is reported so you can inspect the syntax problem.
How It Works
JSON has strict syntax for objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null values. Parsing the input checks whether it follows that syntax; serializing the parsed value with indentation produces a human-readable representation.
Practical Example
A minified API response such as {"name":"JunctionTools","free":true} can be formatted into separate indented lines, making nested objects and arrays easier to inspect during development.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does formatting change the JSON data? Formatting changes whitespace and presentation while preserving the parsed data structure when the input is valid.
Can it fix invalid JSON automatically? It reports parsing errors, but the underlying syntax should be corrected rather than silently guessed.
Is JSON the same as JavaScript? JSON is a data-interchange format with stricter syntax; not every JavaScript expression is valid JSON.
