About This Tool
Generate UUID version 4 identifiers for application development, testing and data modeling. UUIDs provide a convenient globally unique identifier format without requiring a central sequence.
How to Use It
Generate a UUID, copy the result and use it where an identifier is appropriate. Do not use a random UUID as a substitute for a security token when a system requires a dedicated cryptographic design.
How It Works
UUID v4 values are generated from random data with defined version and variant bits. The probability of accidental collision is extremely small when a suitable random source is used, but uniqueness is not an absolute mathematical guarantee.
Practical Example
A database record, temporary object or test fixture can use a UUID to avoid simple sequential identifiers when the application does not require a database-generated integer key.
